HOW TO DEAL WITH DRY SKIN IN THE WINTER
All my life, I have dealt with dewy (ok fine, oily) skin. I literally spent 19 years testing products and finding what worked best for my skin type. But, now that I'm in college in South Carolina it gets so cold and my skin is not used to it! And you know what? My skin gets dry, like painfully dry. You know when your skin is so dry you decide to put a huge glob of moisturizer on your face thinking that it will help the situation and it actually just burns the crap out of your skin? Yeah, I deal with that on the daily now. Naturally, I went on the hunt for the best products for my now combination, (difficult), dry and oily skin. Thankfully, I have found a new winter makeup/skincare routine that really works for me during these intense winter months. PREPPING & PRIMING SKIN
My favorite holy grail moisturizer ever is the Daily Moisturizing Lotion by CeraVe. It is truly amazing. It is really lightweight, however, it gets the job done. If you're looking for a thicker moisturizer, I use the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream at night. This cream saved my skin! After moisturizer, I prime my skin for foundation. Recently, I went to Sephora and picked up the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Oil Free. This primer is perfect because it keeps my skin hydrated while keeping my oils at bay. Once the primer has sunken into my skin, I put a little dot of the Benefit POREfessional around my nose and t-zone. This is the perfect skin cocktail for the winter time.
FOUNDATION & HOW TO GET THE GLOW
Next step, foundation. Picking the right foundation is crucial to have nice looking skin throughout the day. I have fallen back in love with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation. Not only does this foundation smell heavenly, but it also feels heavenly. It gives you that modelesque glow from within, while still giving you good coverage, and still looking like skin. This stuff is basically magic in a bottle. If you're feeling extra boujee or going for a Chrissy Teigen vibe, I have the secret weapon for you. The MAC Strobe Cream in Goldlite will answer all of your prayers. This product is so versatile. Mix it in with your foundation, put it on the high points of your face for the extra glow, or even mix it in with your body moisturizer for the "wet skin" look.
DON'T FORGET TO SET
Confession: I'm obsessed with watching beauty videos and make-up tutorials on YouTube. Honestly, it has become quite a problem. I watch them while I'm walking to class, having a coffee with myself, on the elliptical, and yes, even in the shower. However, I notice that many "beauty-gurus" miss out on possibly the most important step in their makeup/skincare routine. To be honest, there was a dark time when I overlooked this step, but once I started, I never looked back. Setting spray! Hello! How are you going to spend 30 minutes or sometimes even an hour doing your makeup and walk out of the door without setting/spraying your face? I feel incomplete without it. My number one spray for the dewy vibe during the winter months is MAC Fix Plus. Technically, this isn't a setting spray, but it melts the makeup into your skin and makes your face look fresh, glowy, and hydrated. This routine takes about 10-12 minutes. It might seem tedious, but it is worth it I promise!
